This year marks the Silver Anniversary of the Chris Thater Memorial. Our community is proud to be the host of this premier cycling and running event.

The Chris Thater Memorial was named in honor of a young man whose life was tragically cut short by a drunk driver. With a core mission of promoting a STOP-DWI and healthy lifestyle message, the Chris Thater Memorial makes everyone a winner.
I want to congratulate all of those involved: organizers, sponsors and community groups in helping Broome County reach this special “mile marker”. The Chris Thater Memorial would not be the success that it is without you.

For 25 years, world class athletes have come from all over the United States and abroad to compete at the Chris Thater Memorial. And I want to say thank you to not only the athletes, but all of the spectators who have been so supportive of the Chris Thater year in and year out. We again welcome you to our area and hope you will enjoy, participate and have fun at this year's events.
When you are away from the excitement of the races I hope you get a chance to check out our great community and see all that we have to offer here in Greater Binghamton."

Chris Thater Memorial
25th Anniversary Event

Purpose: The Chris Thater Memorial is dedicated in memory of Chris Thater, an avid cyclist, who was killed by a drunk driver. The event is a project of the Broome County STOP-DWI Program to heighten awareness about the drunk-driving problem. The race attracts over 1,500 participants from local athletes to world-class competitors with crowds of over 12,000 spectators. The Chris Thater Memorial consists of the Pro, Elite and Novice cycling events, and a national class 5K Run. The Chris Thater Memorial also features a large Expo area with numerous vendor displays, full concession, entertainment, sports/health clinics, demonstrations and other youth sports and special events.

Competition: USA Cycling National Racing Calendar Event, USACRITS Series Event, USATF 5K Run Event

Prize Purse: Total of $60,000 cash and prizes including Dicks Sporting Goods gift certifications and Mavic Wheel Sets

Other Events: Outdoor Concerts, 3 on 3 Basketball

Participants: 1,500 plus athletes. 2007's race attracted athletes from 27 states and 20 countries.

Spectators: 12,000 plus - featuring course side seating and hospitality tents.

Cycling Race Course: A technical 1.2 mile six corner (for Pro Men and Pro Women) and .85 four corner (for all other events) counter-clockwise course with a hill, that is held around a scenic city park, with a National Register Historic Carousel. Located in a residential neighborhood of Binghamton, New York. Check the Event tab for race schedules.

5K Road Course: Flat, fast, record quality course. USAT&F certified course. Start Time: 9:30 a.m. Sunday August 24, 2008.
