“TIPS” Alcohol Server Training Awareness Program

The Broome County STOP-DWI Program offers a “TIPS” (Training for Intervention ProcedureS) alcohol server training awareness program for area restaurants, hotels, bars, and nightclubs. We can also instruct classes for High Schools, University students and administrators, and Senior Living centers.

The “TIPS” Program’s goal is to empower participants to follow acceptable standards of practice for serving alcohol beverages. The program is New York State TIPS certified.

The On-Premise class is 5 hours long and can be scheduled by contacting the STOP-DWI office.

There are numerous benefits for establishments having their servers attend the “TIPS”

Training Program:

  •  Helps to reduce incidences of driving while intoxicated (DWI)
  • Heightens awareness, skills, and professionalism of the servers
  • Enhances community standing for the business establishment
  • Other possible benefits include: insurance discounts, regulatory compliance, and legal protection (in the form of “TIPS” providing a “reasonable efforts defense”).

To attend the “TIPS” Program, there is a registration fee that covers the cost of attendee’s manual, handouts, and the “TIPS” certified instructor fee of $30 per student which is made payable to: Broome County STOP-DWI Program. Additional items can be purchased directly from TIPs as well including ID Guides, ID inspection devices, log books and other items.

As future “TIPS” Programs are planned and scheduled, news releases will be sent to announce dates, times, and location. For more information, contact the STOP-DWI Office at 607.778.2056.
