Crews will be Blanketing County Roads over the Next Two Weeks

Drivers should expect some delays. Should exercise caution and slow down in work areas.
(Binghamton, NY) Beginning Wednesday, July 21st and running through approximately Wednesday, August 4th, the County will be conducting its oil and stone road maintenance program. This is a fast moving operation that will be cover 52.8 miles of road over a two week period.
The process involves applying a liquid oil, spreading crushed limestone over it and then rolling it. In hot weather, oil can bleed through, causing slick conditions. Drivers are urged to avoid these areas if possible and if they cannot avoid, they are asked to proceed slowly and cautiously.
“Loose stone” signs are put out a couple of days in advance of the treatment and will stay out until it cures. Crews will then return to sweep about 1 week later.
