Winning and honorable mention photographs from the Broome County Environmental Management Council’s (EMC) 15th Joyce K.L. Smith Environmental Photograph Competition, will be displayed at the Broome County Public Library, 185 Court Street, in downtown Binghamton, from May 11th through June 30th during library hours.

The public is invited to attend an opening reception in the second floor exhibit gallery of the Broome County Public Library, Wednesday, May 11th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.  A special exhibit will be held on Saturday, May 14th, 12-4pm, as part of the Susquehanna Heritage Area’s Heritage Weekend events.

The event aims to celebrate BroomeCounty’s natural and cultural environments.  This year, the EMC received 291 entries from 109 amateur photographers. Entrants submitted photographs in the following five categories: Wildlife; Plantlife; Natural Landscape; Cultural Landscape; and People in Action. There was also recognition for the best photograph from a high school student.

In addition to the Environmental Management Council, the event is sponsored by the Broome County Public Library (Binghamton), Garland Gallery (Binghamton), Che Bella! Fine Framing & Allstate Glass (Binghamton), The Beveled Edge (Endicott), and Silver Image Photographics (Vestal).  Contest sponsors furnished prizes.

The event is held in honor of Joyce K.L. Smith, a longtime EMC member and local leader for the environment. Contributions to the Joyce Smith Memorial Fund, which is dedicated to furthering environmental education and enhancing environmental quality, are welcome and appreciated.
