28th Chris Thater Memorial To Be Held This Weekend
August 27-28 at Recreation Park in Binghamton, NY
(Binghamton, NY) The 28th edition of the Chris Thater Memorial is set to go this weekend August 27-28 at Recreation Park on Binghamton’s west side.
This year’s event will have numerous bicycle races and a 5K run for all ages and abilities. The event will also feature 21 bands and have 45 exhibitors at its outdoor expo.
Topping the opening day activities on Saturday, August 27 will be the Pro Women’s Cycling event at 5:00 p.m. The race will feature recently crowned USA Cycling Pro Criterium Champion and 2007 Thater winner – Theresa Cliff-Ryan; Laura Van Gilder, 3 time Thater Champion and Samantha Schneider the 2010 Thater winner.
On Sunday morning August 28 at 10:00 a.m. a very talented field will compete in the Chris Thater Memorial 5K. The event will feature three time winner (’02, ’03 and ’04) John Itati of Kenya and last year’s winner Simon Ndirangu of Kenya. On the women’s side, 2010 Women’s Masters Champion Emily Bryans will return to defend her crown.
At 11:30 a.m. on Sunday the Pro Men’s Cycling race will be contested. Over 100 pros from across the globe are expected to compete. The race will feature 2007 winner Kyle Wamsley, 2010 USA Cycling NRC Series winner Luis Amaran from Cuba and the Mt. Khakis squad, team leaders in the 2011 USA Crits Series.
On-line registration closed at 11:59 p.m. on August 23rd, but there is day-of registration for all events.
