Broome County Rx Discount Program Reaches $3.5 Million in Savings

Local Residents Surpass $3,500,000 in Prescription Savings in just 2 Years

Broome County Executive Patrick Brennan today announced that local residents have collectively saved over $3,500,000 through the Broome County Prescription Discount Program, a County-sponsored initiative that helps individuals and families save money on the cost of prescription drugs. The program, a testament to Brennan’s steadfast commitment to fiscal responsibility, was launched in September of 2009 and costs nothing for participants or Broome County taxpayers.

“I am pleased to announce that the Broome County Prescription Discount Program – an initiative that helps local residents maintain a healthy lifestyle while holding on to more of their hard earned money – has saved local families over $3.5 Million in its first two years,” said Brennan. “Since September of 2009, local residents have filled over 105,000 prescriptions using the card, saving on average 48%. Best of all, these savings have been produced by a program that costs nothing for Broome County or local taxpayers. All residents have to do to join the program is bring the card with them to their pharmacy, and keep the savings growing!”

The Broome County Prescription Discount Program provides savings on the purchase of prescription drugs for the uninsured and underinsured. It is free and open to all Broome County residents, regardless of age, income, or existing health coverage. Since its launch in September of 2009, local pharmacies have filled over 105,000 prescriptions for participants who presented the card, yielding an average savings of 48%, or $31.87 per script. The program is accepted by most pharmacies locally and over 55,000 participating pharmacies nationwide, and also provides additional savings on Vision, Lasik, and Hearing services.

Any resident that does not currently have a card, but would like to join the program, should contact ProAct at 1-877-776-2285, visit www.nyrxdiscountcard.com, or click on the Broome County Discount card icon at www.gobroomecounty.com. Cards will also be available at participating local pharmacies. In August Brennan announced that Broome users reached $3,000,000 in savings.

ProAct, Inc. is a division of Kinney Drugs, Inc. ProAct administers its Prescription Discount Card Program in 47 counties across New York State and is endorsed by the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC).
