Brennan to Begin Review of County Provided Mobile Phones

Executive and Deputy Executives turned in their phones in June

(Binghamton, N.Y.)  Broome County Executive Patrick Brennan is again reviewing services provided to employees; this time it’s mobile telephones and other mobile communication devices.  As with the vehicle take home privileges he also turned in his County owned cell phone and directed the Deputy Executives to do the same.

Currently, there are more than 200 County owned mobile communication devices.  CountyExecutive Brennan has ordered an evaluation of the number of county provided devices, productivity measurement, the cost of each, and the job duties of the individual assigned the devices.

Brennan said, “we are spending a lot of money on wireless devices and mobile connectivity to the internet and email and I want to make sure that these expenses are justified when compared with the job duties of the employee to whom the device is assigned.”

“A lot of county business is conducted remotely and I don’t want to make any employees any less efficient, but I do want to make sure that the spending is justified,” said Brennan.

The evaluation is expected to be complete this summer.
