Brennan Grounds Six More Vehicles

(Binghamton, N.Y.) Broome County Executive Patrick J. Brennan has grounded six more take home vehicles. Brennan notified six department/division heads that they would no longer be able to take their county provided vehicles home or use them to commute to and from work. This brings the total to nine previously authorized county provided vehicles that will now be spending nights and weekends on county owned property.

On April 21st, just minutes after having been appointed county executive by the county legislature, Brennan announced that he and his two deputies would no longer utilize take home vehicles. Those three vehicles have been assigned to the county’s flexible fleet and will allow for the elimination of aging vehicles when the county auctions unwanted property in September.

Brennan doesn’t consider grounding these vehicles as merely symbolic. “You call it symbolic, I call it good government. The residents of Broome County deserve fiscally responsible management and prudent use of the taxpayers’ money, property, and other resources,” said Brennan.

On May 6th, Brennan announced that his 2012 budget will include a 0% property tax increase. On May 20th, Brennan reiterated that message in a 2012 budget kick-off meeting with department heads. Brennan is expected to deliver his 2012 budget to the Legislature in September.
