Brennan Introduces Retirement Incentive

Move intended to trim County’s workforce for 2012

(Binghamton, N.Y.)  Broome County Executive Patrick J. Brennan has introduced a proposal to offer a retirement incentive to eligible County employees this year.  The proposal, submitted to the county legislature last week was also outlined in a letter that was sent to county employees today.

“I am hopeful that by giving people several months to plan for retirement, it will downsize the county workforce in order to achieve my budgetary goals,” Brennan said.  “The Personnel Department tells me that as many as 150 current county employees are eligible to retire.  All of them would also be eligible for this proposed incentive.  With the Legislature’s approval, we can manage the size of county government and reduce the burden to the tax payer,” Brennan said.

The Request for Legislative Approval is expected to be considered at the Legislature’s committee meetings in June.
