County Executive Debbie Preston Announces $500,000 in Flood Relief for Businesses

(Binghamton, NY) Today Broome County Executive Debbie Preston announced that funding will be available through The New York State Housing Trust Fund Corporation’s Office of Community Renewal (OCR), in the amount of $500,000, to assist local businesses affected by flooding.
“We fought hard to provide essential funding for businesses who were hit hard by the flood,” said Preston. “This is an important step in getting their doors open and putting their employees back to work.”
Assistance will be available to businesses severely impacted by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee and will be provided through two grant programs:
- Main Street Program – For the purpose of providing support for the repair and restoration of buildings damaged by the storms. Total support through this program is $350,000.
- NYS Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) – For the purpose of providing support for the repair and replacement of permanent fixtures and equipment, as well as for inventory and working capital. Total support through this program is $150,000.
Funding is intended to support to “Main Street” businesses located in communities hardest hit by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. Grant assistance can only be used for properties that were habitable prior to the storms, rendered uninhabitable as a result of the storms, and will be rehabilitated with the intention of continuing the business in the same location.
