Executive Fiala Attends Appointment Ceremony in Albany
Kirsten Gillibrand Appointed to United States Senate
(BINGHAMTON, NY) Today, Broome County Executive Barbara J. Fiala joined Governor David Paterson and other leaders in Albany for the appointment of Kirsten Gillibrand as New York State’s junior Senator. In 2006, Senator Gillibrand was elected as the Congresswoman for the 20th congressional district which incorporates a portion of neighboring Delaware County. Gillibrand is fulfilling the vacancy created by the appointment of Hillary Rodham Clinton as the nation’s Secretary of State.
Executive Fiala was honored to attend the appointment ceremony in support of Senator Gillibrand. “As an upstate congresswoman, in a diverse district, Kirsten Gillibrand has proven her commitment to the needs of all New Yorkers,” said Broome County Executive Barbara J. Fiala. “It is not easy to fill the shoes of our former Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton however; Governor Paterson has chosen a leader who as the ability and devotion to continue the representation New Yorkers are accustomed to. We are fortunate to have Senator Gillibrand join Senator Schumer to work as our representatives to better New York and our nation.”
