OJT Funds Help Local Business Hire Workers
(BINGHAMTON, NY) More than 35 area businesses have hired 58 workers in the past year with the On-the-Job Training (OJT) program. OJT pairs businesses with qualified workers and covers up to up to 90% of the trainee’s wages during the training period.
“In the last 12 months we have been able to provide local businesses with $350,095 of re-imbursement for hiring new workers,” Terry R. Stark, Executive Director of the Broome-Tioga Workforce Investment Board. “ Newly created jobs include welders, trades-related, mechanical and professional positions.”
“The On-the-Job Training program is designed to encourage hiring of job seekers who have been unemployed for 27 weeks or more,” Stark said, “and it helps businesses make hiring decisions sooner further helping the local economy.”

Broome-Tioga Workforce New York operates two One Stop Centers to assist local businesses with recruiting and training, and to assist local residents by providing career advice and training assistance. The Workforce New York offices are located at 171 Front Street in Binghamton, and at the Tioga County Human Services building located on Route 38 in Owego.
Broome-Tioga Workforce is a unique partnership between Tioga and Broome Counties and the regional business community to help businesses recruit and retain talented workers, assess and respond to current and future workforce needs, and help individuals obtain rewarding career opportunities.
