BINGHAMTON, NY – The Johnson City Senior Center in conjunction with the Broome County Older Drivers Network will hold a Senior Drive, a Driving Wellness Checklist© event for seniors on Friday, September 24, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Senior Drive is a program that seeks to empower senior drivers by helping them understand their vehicle better and increase their safety within their vehicle. It’s easy, it’s free and it takes just 20 minutes.

Older drivers are ever increasing in numbers. And while people of any age seek independence through driving, this is truer for older drivers. However, older drivers are more susceptible to changing health conditions that may interfere with safe driving.

Drivers who attend the event will be provided with an in-vehicle safety assessment. Each participant will have an opportunity to meet privately with a Senior Drive Technician to discuss topics relating to their own vehicle that may affect their driving. Senior Drive Technicians will provide insightful information on adjustments and in-vehicle safety that will help keep drivers safer behind the wheel and driving longer.

The event is located at 30 Brocton Street, Johnson City, NY. Seniors who are interested should contact Pam at the Johnson City Senior Center at 607.797.3145 to schedule an appointment. Appointments are encouraged but “drive-ins” are welcome on this day.
