Hiring Incentives Will Assist Area Businesses and the Unemployed
(BINGHAMTON, NY) New hiring incentives can save local businesses money and may help unemployed persons return to work faster, according to Terry R. Stark, Director of the Broome-Tioga Workforce Investment Board.
Laid off persons from local companies are eligible for training funds, including the On-the-Job Training program, which can provide wage reimbursement to an employer for hiring and training a worker in a new job.
“These workers have a high level of skills and can readily be trained in new jobs with different companies, and the On-the-Job Training program will help compensate businesses for this training,” Stark said.
In addition, the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment (HIRE) Act is available to provide businesses a tax break to hire new employees from the ranks of the long-term unemployed.
“This new tax break can help a business avoid paying their share of Social Security taxes on a new worker who had been unemployed for 60 days or more,” Stark said.
Businesses who take advantage of the program are projected to save thousands of dollars depending upon the employee’s salary and start date.
“This hiring incentive not only makes it more likely that a business will bring more workers on their payroll, but it will remove persons from receiving unemployment, and instead provide them with wages and a more viable future,” said Stark.
