June 15 is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

(BINGHAMTON-N.Y,) What is elder abuse? It can be someone taking money an elder person needs to live on. It can be pushing and shoving. It can be leaving an elderly person who can not care for themselves unattended or without their medications. Many elder citizens are victimized by the very people who are supposed to care for them. Elder abuse can take many forms and elder abuse often goes unreported.
Financial exploitation is on the rise here locally. Concerned community members’ band together to stop the exploitation and neglect of the elderly! On Tuesday June 15th at 9:15 a.m. the Broome County Family Violence Prevention Council will hold a Press Conference to talk about the importance of protecting our elderly citizens.
Residents of New York State and Broome County need to know how to recognize the signs of that an elderly person is being exploited, neglected or abused. They also need to know where they can report elder abuse to get begin an investigation into the situation.
