Binghamton Walk of Fame to Move To Forum Theatre

The 44 stars of the Binghamton Walk of Fame will soon have a new home.

Broome County Legislator and Chairman of Economic Development, Education and Culture Committee, Michael Sopchak, was joined by County Executive Debbie Preston, Binghamton Mayor Rich David, the Friends of the Forum and the Walk of Fame committees to start the process of moving the stars from a sidewalk at the Metro Center on Court Street to the Forum Theatre.

“These stars are symbolic of the contributions residents of Binghamton have made to the arts community,” says Broome County Executive Debbie Preston. “Moving the stars to the Forum Theatre is fitting because the Forum is at the center of the arts community.”

“The 44 stars on the Walk of Fame showcase an important part of our history,” says Robert Keller, president of the Walk of Fame committee. “I applaud County Executive Preston, Mayor David and the others for moving these stars to an area that will be more visible.”

The removal of the Stars and relocation to the Forum Theatre is expected to take about a month.

“We are pleased to work with Broome County to relocate the Walk of Fame to a more visible and accessible location,” says Binghamton Mayor Richard C. David. “These stars represent an important part of our community’s history and they deserve to be in a location that will be seen all year round.”

“The Binghamton Walk of Fame is a great reminder of those from our area who have contributed so much to the Arts,” said County Legislator Mike Sopchak who is also Chairman of the Economic Development, Education and Culture Committee. “It is fitting that the stars will be moved to the Broome County Forum for the entire community to enjoy and I would like to thank all of those who are making this possible, especially the Friends of the Forum.”

“The Friends of the Forum applaud both the City of Binghamton and Broome County for recognizing the need to make these stars more accessible,” says Ron Sall from the Friends of the Forum. “We jumped at the chance to work with these groups to move the stars to the Forum, where they will be shown as part of a display to recognize the arts in our community.”

The County Public Works department is doing the work to move the stars to their new location at the Forum Theatre.

The City of Binghamton, which owns the property where the stars are currently, will pave in the areas left vacant by the move.
