Legislature’s Website Expands Information Available to Public

Chairman of the Broome County Legislature Daniel D. Reynolds (D-Vestal) today announced a substantial expansion of the publicly available county legislative records on the board’s website at www.gobroomecounty.com/legis, continuing the legislature’s commitment to making government more transparent, responsive and accountable.

“This is a great step forward in proactive disclosure of legislative business,” said Chairman Reynolds. “By giving Broome County residents online access to the legislature’s records and its day-to-day operations, we will improve service to our constituents.”

For the first time, the public will have online access to information about all legislative business — both in committees and regular session. Proposed resolutions and local laws, meeting notices and accepted studies are now available under the Legislative Business tab on the legislature’s website. In 2007, the legislature began posting committee and session agendas and minutes online.

Users will now be able to access proposed resolutions prior to the committee in which they are discussed and will be able to review proposed local laws prior to their adoption. Meeting notices are published on the calendar and all legislative publications are now also available online.
In addition, the legislature has created a Facebook page for residents to follow in order to receive updated information. Those interested can follow the link on the webpage or search “Broome County Legislature”

The website is one component of Chairman Reynolds’ commitment to a more accessible government to residents and greater accountability to taxpayers.
