Merrill to take Oath of Office
(Binghamton, NY) Second District Legislator Joseph A. Merrill will be sworn in at an Oath of Office Ceremony which will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 5:00 P.M. in the Broome County Legislative Chamber immediately preceding the Legislative Session. The Oath of Office will be administered by City of Binghamton Judge Mary Ann Lehman.
After a vacancy was created in the 2nd legislative district following the resignation of Timothy Cleary, the legislature unanimously appointed Joseph A. Merrill to the seat. Merrill will finish the term to which Mr. Cleary was elected in the fall of 2008. Merrill serves as a Captain in the New York Army National Guard and is a resident of Binghamton’s First Ward. The appointment took effect on April 13, 2010 and lasts through the end of the 2010. The seat will be up for election this fall as will all 19 legislative seats.
