Messina Honored by the Broome County Status of Women Council
(Binghamton, NY) Sixth District Broome County Legislator, Suzanne Gorman Messina was honored by the Broome County Status of Women Council at their 33rd Annual Women of Achievement Dinner. Legislator Messina was recognized for her leadership, school and community service, as well as for being a pioneer in local politics.
Legislator Messina won election to the Broome County Legislature in 2008 and serves on the Public Safety and Emergency Services Committee, the Human Services Committee, the Education, Culture, and Recreation Committee and the Transportation and Rural Development Committee. She is a Business Teacher at Broome-Tioga BOCES and is active in many school related committees to help better our local education system. Legislator Messina is also actively involved in the community, volunteering her time with the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Relay for Life Cancer Walk, and the church choir.
Messina said, “I am honored to receive the 2009 Woman of Achievement recognition from the Broome County Status of Women Council. My work has always been satisfying to me, and I hope that this recognition serves to inspire other women in our community to become more involved.”
The Sixth Legislative District includes parts of the Town of Binghamton, the Town of Conklin, and the Town of Vestal. Legislator Messina is presently serving her first term on the Legislature.
