Free Family Fun Events
"Keeping youth drug-free and safe is our goal," says project specialist Melinda Kmetz. "It's about bringing the community together. So many people want to make a difference and together we can."
The family nights are part of the coalition's broader effort to make Broome County a better place to live. Founded in 2000, the KYDS Coalition is a unique collaboration of agencies, organizations and school districts in the community.
"We work to create opportunities for supportive, healthy, drug-free youth, families, and neighborhoods in Broome County by strengthening existing partnerships between traditional and non-traditional prevention teams," added Kmetz. The KYDS Coalition is funded by the federal Drug Free Communities Support Program Grant, through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) and the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP).
