Registration for 2015 Chris Thater Memorial Cycling and 5K Race Now Open

Races held August 22-23 in Downtown Binghamton

 

(Binghamton, NY) The Broome County STOP-DWI Program announced that online registration is now open for both the cycling races and 5K run for the 32nd Annual Chris Thater Memorial Races presented by SEFCU.

 

Cyclists and runners can visit www.ThaterMemorial.com to navigate to the registration page for a complete list of events. For those that wish to register through the mail or in person, registration flyers are available on the website. Race day registration will be available near Boscov’s on Court St. Free parking will be available at all downtown parking ramps.

 

The 2015 Chris Thater Memorial Races will again be held in the center of Downtown Binghamton.  The races attract more than 1,000 athletes and up to 5,000 spectators to downtown Binghamton over the weekend. With over $5,000 in cash and prizes for the 5K run and $32,500 in cash and prizes for the cycling races, the Chris Thater Memorial is the premier cycling and running event in Upstate NY.

 

The date and time for the 5K run is Sunday, August 23rd at 9:50a.m.  A free Kids Run will follow the 5K at 10:45am. The start line for the 5K race will be located on the Court Street Bridge and the race will finish under the main finish line truss on State St. The Kids Run will begin near Burger Monday’s at the intersection of Henry St and State St.

 

In addition to the 18 cycling races for riders of all abilities from a free kids fun ride to the USA Cycling National Criterium Calendar pro races on Saturday night, the Chris Thater Memorial will host the 2015 New York State Bicycle Racing Association Criterium Championships. The top-3 USA Cycling annual license holders residing in New York State will compete for top honors in several age and class categories throughout the weekend.

 

This free, family-friendly event is organized by Broome County STOP-DWI and presented by SEFCU to heighten awareness about the dangers of impaired driving and to promote healthy lifestyles. The Chris Thater Memorial is dedicated in memory of Christopher Thater, a 23 year-old cycling enthusiast and Binghamton University graduate who was killed by a drunk driver in Broome County on October 16, 1983.
