Broome County Teams with Davis College to Build Bus Shelter

Binghamton, NY – Broome County Executive Debbie Preston joined Commissioner of B.C. Transit Greg Kilmer and representatives from Davis College to announce two new initiatives with the Johnson City campus.

The first is the installation of a bus shelter in front of the Davis College campus.

“We want to thank Davis College for their partnership in the installation of this new bus shelter,” says Broome County Executive Debbie Preston.  “We have several local students that attend Davis College who rely on public transportation.  This new shelter will give them a dry place, out of the elements, to wait for the bus.”

“We see the bus shelter as a community benefit.  There are many others in the area who use the current stop and will now use the shelter who are not associated with the college,” says Dr. Dino J. Pedrone, President of Davis College.  “We will always continue to be good stewards of our neighborhood, Johnson City and Broome County.”

The shelter was a joint effort between Davis College and Broome County Transit.

The College performed the site work and the pouring of a concrete pad and Broome County Transit provided the shelter and installation.

“This is a perfect example of government working with a private group for the betterment of the community,” says Commissioner of Transit Greg Kilmer.  “We are happy to do whatever we can to make a rider’s B.C. Transit experience the best it can possibly be.”

The second initiative is that transit will be providing services for the Chrisfield campus as we move forward with expansion of Davis College to serve more students and the community

Nearly 150 students and staff use the Transit system to get to and from campus, as well as stores, restaurants and other locations in Broome County.

The contract is very similar to the contracts currently between B.C. Transit and Binghamton University as well as SUNY Broome Community College.

Davis College will host an unveiling on Thursday, August 20th at 11:00 am.  The media is encouraged to attend.
