Local Jazz Singer Given Star on Wall of Stars

(Binghamton, NY) – Broome County Executive Debbie Preston is proud to join the Friends of the Forum in announcing jazz singer Alma Fortez is the most recent recipient of a Star on its Wall of Stars.

The County Executive’s Office was joined by members of the Friends of the Forum and Binghamton Mayor Rich David to present the star to Fortez’s family, in honor of her years of contributions and achievements on the local and national stage.

Broome County STOP-DWI and SEFCU Presents the 2016 Chris Thater Memorial Races

(Binghamton, NY) The 33rd annual Chris Thater Memorial Races presented by SEFCU will be held the weekend of August 27-28 in Downtown Binghamton. The event is expected to attract more than 1,200 athletes and up to 5,000 spectators to Binghamton’s downtown business district. Held in memory of Christopher Thater, who was killed by a drunk driver, the event consists of public, amateur, and pro cycling events, a 5K Run, several youth races, a crossfit-style competition, and several health and wellness vendors.

Preston Joins Local Leaders to Announce County’s Plan to Return More Sales Tax to Municipalities

(JOHNSON CITY, N.Y.) — Broome County Executive Debra A. Preston joined Broome County Legislative Chairman Daniel J. Reynolds, Broome County Legislators and more than a half dozen local leaders to announce the County’s plan to give back more sales tax to the municipalities in 2017.

Local municipalities will receive an additional $1.18 million in 2017, with $373,000 of that total generated from a 15 percent boost in revenue sharing compared to last year.
