Executive Fiala Announces New Delta Service between BGM and JFK
BINGHAMTON, NY - Broome County Executive Barbara J. Fiala announces new regional jet service between the Greater Binghamton Airport and John F. Kennedy Airport in New York City. Delta Air Lines, which announced the new services today, says it will be adding two new daily flights beginning May 7th.
“We are absolutely thrilled with this latest news out of Delta Air Lines,” said Executive Fiala. “This New York City link has been a priority of mine since taking office two years ago. It has been a challenge, especially in light of the current state of affairs in the airline industry but I want to thank Delta for extending this service to our community and I want to thank Senator Schumer for continuing his fight to expand air service to more upstate communities.
"This new service will be a shot in the arm for air service across upstate New York," said Sen. Charles Schumer of New York. "Delta has expanded its commitment to bringing high quality service to previously underserved communities. There is no question that the new jets are a win-win for business and leisure travelers alike because they will not only provide faster, more comfortable flights, but they will encourage future growth across the board.
Atlanta based Delta Air Lines will reduce its connections to Atlanta by one flight a day out of BGM but county officials say the positives of the JFK connection far outweigh the loss of the one Atlanta connection. Aviation Commissioner Carl Beardsley says the county will also work to get that flight restored in the future and is always working on additional air service options for Greater Binghamton customers.
“The addition of direct service to JFK from BGM gives our community some of the best air service options the Greater Binghamton area has ever had. We will have direct service to five major hubs with service from carriers representing four of the countries largest airlines.”
