Greater Binghamton Airport Final Year End Passenger Counts Rise
(Activity at highest levels in last six years)
BINGHAMTON, NY - A final tally has revealed that for the third consecutive year passenger boardings at the Greater Binghamton Airport (BGM) have increased over the previous year. In 2004, 137,505 passengers used our airport. That's up 5.1% compared to 2003 when 130,854 boardings occurred. The Air Transport Association reports that nationwide air travel boardings increased by 5.7%, which is on par with increases at BGM.
Also in 2004, total passenger traffic, which combines both arriving and departing travelers, rose to 276,334. Compared with 2003, when 258,840 travelers used BGM, total passenger activity has increased by 6.8%. This passenger activity figure is at the highest level at BGM since 1998.
"We are excited about the prospects of passenger activity in 2005 coming off another banner year at the Greater Binghamton Airport," said Barbara J. Fiala, Broome County Executive. "When you combine the fares at our airport with the convenience of our airport, it is a definite win-win for our local travelers."
Currently, the Greater Binghamton Airport offers service from 4 of the nation's 7 largest airlines with 36 flights per day (approximately 60% of these flights utilize new regional jet aircraft) providing convenient service to most domestic and international destinations. The airlines currently serving the Greater Binghamton area include Delta Connection, Northwest Airlink, United Express and US Airways Express. From these airlines, non-stop service is available to Cincinnati, Detroit, Washington DC, and Philadelphia, respectively.
