Increases continue into the New Year
BINGHAMTON, NY - Broome County Executive, Jeff Kraham is pleased to announce that January passenger boardings at the Greater Binghamton Airport (BGM) have increased by 17.7% compared to the same period last year. In January of 2004, 10,676 passengers flew from BGM compared to 9,072 in January of 2003. This is the highest passenger traffic total in January for the Greater Binghamton Airport since January of 1997 when 11,047 people departed from BGM.
January 2004 also represents the eighteenth consecutive month that the airport has experienced increased passenger traffic over the previous year. This passenger increase is again at a time when nationwide passenger traffic remains down. According to data from the Air Transport Association nationwide passenger traffic is down 1.1% comparing January 2004 with the same period in 2003.
"This level of passenger activity is a terrific start to 2004 for the Greater Binghamton Airport," said County Executive Kraham. "Vacationers, along with an increase in the level of business travelers, have allowed us to achieve our best start in seven years," added Kraham.
Currently, the Greater Binghamton Airport offers service from 4 of the nation's 7 largest airlines with 38 flights per day (1/3 of these flights utilize new regional jet aircraft) providing convenient service to most domestic and international destinations.
