Positive Operating Results Continue To Rise At BGM
BINGHAMTON, NY - Broome County Executive Barbara J. Fiala is pleased to announce that during March of 2005 a total of 12,428 airline passengers boarded flights at the Greater Binghamton Airport, an increase of 10.3 percent over March '04. This represents the highest passenger total for March since 1997, when 13,724 passengers departed from BGM.
"A combination of strong spring vacationer response to recent airfare sales and a noticeable new increase in business travel produced these exceptional boarding numbers," remarked County Executive Fiala. "The airport continues to be an area of economic growth for the Greater Binghamton Region - both through passenger activity and revenue expansion," added Fiala.
In addition to increased passenger traffic, the airport is also experiencing growth in operating revenues. Revenues from both the parking lot and airport concessions have increased above last year's strong results. Similarly, since January 1, 2005, the number of new members to the airport's Business Travelers' Reward Program have increased a whopping 85% over the same period last year, with total membership now reaching 331.
"Our customers in the region are taking full advantage of the convenience and services offered at the Greater Binghamton Airport," said Carl G. Olson, Commissioner of Transportation. "The dramatic increase in our business travelers and rewards program members confirms this fact," added Olson.
Currently, the Greater Binghamton Airport offers service from 4 of the nation's 7 largest airlines providing convenient service to most domestic and international destinations. The airlines currently serving the Greater Binghamton Airport include Delta Connection, Northwest Airlink, United Express, and US Airways Express. Of the 34 total flights offered at BGM, over 50% are operated on jet aircraft.
