Passenger Boardings At The Greater Binghamton Airport Continue To Outpace National Average
Parking lot to be expanded to accommodate increased passenger traffic

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Broome County Department of Aviation has reported that boarding numbers at the Greater Binghamton Airport (BGM) are up for the 20th consecutive month. During the month of March the airport realized an increase of 8.7% in passenger traffic over the same period in 2003. Year-to-date traffic at the Greater Binghamton Airport is up 14.5% compared to the first quarter of 2003. These figures represent the airport's best first quarter total since 1998 and outpace the national average which shows a March year-to-date increase in airport traffic of only 3.6%.

"Travelers searching for a positive airport experience and affordable fares have discovered the Greater Binghamton Airport exceeds their expectations," said Broome County Executive, Jeff Kraham. "This consistent increase in passenger traffic at the airport has created a need to expand the number of parking spaces available at our facility. Late this spring up to 150 temporary parking spaces will be created at the Greater Binghamton Airport," said Mr. Kraham.

In addition to providing travelers with more parking space; many other projects are under way at the airport, which focus on customer safety and convenience. The Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) recently upgraded baggage-screening equipment that speeds up passenger check-in time. The Greater Binghamton Airport is currently in the final construction phase of a $2.1 million passenger boarding bridge project, which will provide each of the four airlines serving BGM the opportunity to board/deplane their customers inside, free of safety and weather concerns. Following US Airways Express' recent schedule upgrade, now half of all flights to/from the Greater Binghamton Airport are operated on jet aircraft. The airport is also served by United Express, Northwest Airlink, and Delta Connection.
