County Executive To Proclaim May 4, 2003 "Danielle 5K Run/Walk Day" In Broome County
BINGHAMTON, NY - Broome County Executive, Jeffrey P. Kraham will proclaim Sunday, May 4, 2003 as "Danielle Stento 5K Run/Walk Day" in Broome County at a press conference to be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Crowley Foods, Inc., 95 Court St. Binghamton, N.Y.
The Danielle 5K Run/Walk is in its twelfth year and is held to honor Danielle Stento who as a college student in 1989 was struck by a drunk driver in Buffalo, NY. Danielle suffered Traumatic Brain Injury and today is living proof of why drinking and driving do not mix.
"Broome County supports and commends the Stento Family, Crowley Foods, Broome County Stop-DWI and all of the sponsors and participants of the "Danielle 5K Run/Walk," said Mr. Kraham. "Since 1992 over $225,000 has been raised to support area high school SADD Chapters and community organizations in their efforts to educate the public about drinking and driving." "The commitment of Danielle and her family to maintaining public awareness of the consequences of drunk driving is something everyone can be thankful for."
