The Chris Thater Memorial Joins The American Criterium Championship Series

BINGHAMTON, NY - Broome County Executive, Jeffrey P. Kraham announced today that the Chris Thater Memorial has been selected to join the inaugural American Criterium Championship Series that links together seven of America's premier cycling events.

According to 7UP/MAXXIS pro cycling team manager Jeff Corbett, "the American Criterium Championship Series represents a combination of the most significant criteriums in the nation. Many spectators in key media markets provide great exposure for our sponsors."

The American Criterium Championship Series boasts over 175 combined years of cycling tradition for the seven events that will be part of the inaugural season. Series members are:

	Twilight Criterium		Athens, Georgia
	Clarendon Cup		Alexandria, Virginia
	Tour of Somerville		Somerville, New Jersey
	Superweek Criterium		Milwaukee, Wisconsin
	Wendy's International		Columbus, Ohio
	Chris Thater Memorial		Binghamton, New York
	Manhattan Beach Grand Prix	Los Angeles, California

The Chris Thater Memorial which, marks its 20th anniversary this year, is held in honor of Chris Thater an avid cyclist who was killed by a drunk driver. "This event has done a great deal to raise awareness about stopping DWI in the Greater Binghamton area," said the County Executive. "The event also helps to showcase Broome County, hundreds of athletes and spectators from across the United States and internationally visit our community each year. Linking with the American Criterium Championship Series will provide additional prestige and visibility to the Memorial and Broome County," said Mr. Kraham.
