U.S. Senators Clinton and Schumer Secure Millions for Airport

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Greater Binghamton Airport's runway rehabilitation project can now move forward with funding in place. United States Senators Charles Schumer and Hillary Rodham Clinton have helped secure $4,000,000 in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) funds for the project.

"This is great news for Greater Binghamton," said Schumer. "The Greater Binghamton Airport welcomes travelers to New York each year, and these improvements are important for local businesses and strengthening the local economy. I will continue to fight for federal funds to help the airport remain a thriving center of activity and a hub for economic growth in the region."

"Binghamton Airport is one of the key gateways to the Southern Tier and as an important tool in the growth of our upstate economy, we cannot do enough to support it," said Senator Clinton. "I am pleased that we can continue to make these kinds of investments in the region's future."

"I want to thank both of our New York Senators for their hard work in securing the funds for this important project," said Barbara Fiala, Broome County Executive. "The work had to be done and now we can move forward with the secure knowledge that we have the proper funding in place."

The runway rehabilitation project is slated to begin in the middle of June of 2005. Much of the work will be done at night and Deputy Commissioner of Aviation, Carl Beardsley, says the project will not interrupt the local air service schedules.
