2003 STOP-DWI Holiday Classic Tournament Field Undergoes Shuffle
Bishop Ford Withdraws - Christ The King Signs On
BINGHAMTON, NY - Broome County STOP-DWI announced today that 2003 tournament entrant Bishop Ford High School (BFHS) has withdrawn from this year's STOP-DWI Holiday Classic.
Jim May, Broome County STOP-DWI Coordinator said, "Bishop Ford High School and tournament organizers mutually agreed to BFHS's withdrawal. We look forward to Bishop Ford's return to the STOP-DWI Holiday Classic in the near future." "Bishop Ford school president and former head basketball coach, Ray Nash, who led his squad to the tourney's inaugural title in 1992 has been an outspoken advocate of the STOP-DWI Holiday Classic and the message the tournament represents. Unfortunately, due to recent developments internal to the school, withdrawal was the only option," said Mr. May.
As a result of Bishop Ford's withdrawal tournament organizers went back to recruiting teams and were fortunate to sign perennial national power, Christ The King High School. STOP-DWI Holiday Classic Tournament Director and chief recruiter, Rick Westfall has been able to sign the high school champions of Washington, DC, Baltimore and New York City. In addition Mr. Westfall has recruited national power Simon Gratz of Philadelphia. "2003 may be the best field in the history of the STOP-DWI Holiday Classic," said Westfall.
The 2003 National Division Teams playing in the Holiday Classic are:
Binghamton High School, NY Christ The King High School, NY Gonzaga High School, DC Mt. St. Joseph High School, MD Sanford School, DE Simon-Gratz High School, PA St. Thomas Aquinas H.S., FL Winton Woods High School, Ohio
