Broome County to Participate in Statewide STOP-DWI Effort
BINGHAMTON, NY - Local law enforcement agencies will be involved in the “Statewide STOP-DWI Crackdown Weekends” campaign this Memorial Day weekend. Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer and is not only one of the busiest on our nation’s highways, it is also one of the deadliest. Law enforcement agencies throughout the state will be out in force, in this across the board effort, to reduce the number of alcohol related injuries and fatalities.
In addition to this Memorial Day weekend, the “Crackdown Weekends” effort will take place the Fourth of July holiday period of June 20th-July 4th, Labor Day Weekend of September 1st-4th, National Life Savers Weekend, December 15th-17th and finally the holiday period that runs between December 22nd-January 1st.
While STOP-DWI efforts across New York State have led to significant reductions in the number of alcohol related fatalities, still too many lives are being lost because of crashes caused by drunk or impaired drivers. Highly publicized efforts like this “Statewide STOP-DWI Crackdown Weekends” campaign aim to reduce the numbers even further and hopefully secure a safer holiday for families traveling through the state.
