Delta Air Lines Connects Greater Binghamton to Atlanta

BINGHAMTON, NY - Broome County Executive Barbara J. Fiala and a number of local business and community leaders today, welcomed the inaugural arrival and departure of Delta Air Lines new service between Greater Binghamton and Atlanta, Georgia.

The first flight, scheduled to arrive at 2pm and depart at 2:30pm, is the Greater Binghamton Airport’s(BGM) first ever airline connection to one of the largest and best connected airports in the world, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International(ATL).

“We have been lobbying our airlines heavily for air service that provides our local residents with better connections and Delta Air Lines has come through with probably one of the best options available,” said Executive Fiala. “As a result of this new air service to Atlanta, travelers have the convenience of direct flights to one of America’s fastest growing cities and access to an airport with connectivity that is second to none. We are just thrilled with this new service and I encourage the community to take advantage of what this new connection has to offer.”

From Delta Air Lines alone, Atlanta International Airport provides travelers access to nearly 240 destinations around the globe, including extensive flight schedules to Europe, Latin America and all 50 states. The two (2) new flights to Atlanta replace the two (2) flights to Cincinnati. The airport in Cincinnati offers about half of the connectivity offered at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

“The business and leisure travelers of our region will benefit from the strengths of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport – primarily its convenient access to Delta’s large selection of non-stop flights to domestic and international destinations throughout the world,” said Carl R. Beardsley, Jr., Broome County Commissioner of Aviation. “We are pleased to work with Delta to provide this highly sought after and valuable service to the travelers of our region,” added Beardsley.

Passengers departing the first Delta Air Lines flight today from Atlanta received Empire Apples, while passengers boarding the first departing flight for Atlanta received Georgia Peaches.
