United Express To Begin New Regional Jet Service At The Greater Binghamton Airport
Passenger boardings continue to break records
BINGHAMTON, NY - Broome County Executive, Jeff Kraham announced today that United Express will initiate regional jet service between Greater Binghamton and Washington-Dulles beginning September 8, 2004. United Airlines is the world's second largest airline with more than 1800 worldwide flights per day to more than 109 destinations.
With the start of this upgraded service by United Express, all four carriers serving the Greater Binghamton Airport will now offer a level of jet service. This raises the percentage of jet service to over 60%- the highest in the airport's history. In addition this enhanced service secures Greater Binghamton's position as the only regional airport offering non-stop service to Washington along with jet service to five different domestic and international connecting hub airports.
Mr. Kraham began discussing the importance of jet service between Binghamton and Washington DC with United Airlines over four years ago. Working with the support of Lockheed Martin Integration Systems in Owego, NY and BAE SYSTEMS Platform Solutions, in Johnson City, Broome County was able to convince United Airlines to invest these expensive assets in our community during one of the most challenging periods for the airline industry.
"Both business and leisure travelers will now enjoy faster, more comfortable and convenient air service to our airport's #2 top destination and our #1 market for travelers flying to visit Greater Binghamton", said Mr. Kraham. "Through the major investment United Airlines has made in Greater Binghamton with this service enhancement they are demonstrating their confidence in our market and their long term commitment to serve our community", continued the County Executive.
The Greater Binghamton Airport is currently experiencing its 22nd consecutive month of increased passenger boardings. Year-to-date enplanements have increased by 14.2% and are up 8.3% over May of 2003.
