Passenger Boarding Bridge Project Completed At The Greater Binghamton Airport
One more step forward for the community

BINGHAMTON, NY - Broome County Executive, Jeff Kraham is pleased to announce that the construction and installation of four (4) new passenger boarding bridges has been completed at the Greater Binghamton Airport (BGM). To celebrate this important development, the County Executive and State Senator Thomas W. Libous will hold a news conference and ribbon cutting ceremony at the airport on Monday, June 28th at noon.

The construction and installation of the four (4) new boarding bridges began in October 2003. Available to each of the airlines offering service a BGM, these enclosed bridges provide travelers with 100% protection from the weather, while maintaining the highest level of safety, security, comfort and convenience. The boarding bridges have the capability of handling all types of aircraft including large jets.

"Over the past 22 months the investment in and commitment to the Greater Binghamton Airport by Broome County and it's air carriers has produced some of the highest passenger boarding numbers that the airport has seen since 1998," said County Executive Kraham. "The completion of the passenger boarding bridge project represents one more step forward in our effort to provide the safest, most convenient, affordable air travel in the region," continued Mr. Kraham.

Project costs totaled 2.1 million dollars, 56% funded by federal grants, 17% airport enterprise funds and 27% New York State money which includes a grant secured by New York State Senator Thomas W. Libous. The bridge installation was completed in two separate phases to minimize the effects on travelers during construction.

Media representatives are asked to meet in the baggage claim area at 11:45 a.m. where they will be escorted to the air carrier apron by security personnel.
