Military Performances To Be Featured At The Greater Binghamton Air Show 2003

BINGHAMTON, NY - Broome County Executive, Jeffrey P. Kraham announced today that the Viper East F-16 Demonstration Team based out of Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina will highlight military participation at the Greater Binghamton Air Show on Sunday, July 13th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Giant Markets and the Newman Development Group will present this exciting event "Celebrating 100 Years of Powered Flight." The Greater Binghamton Airport will be the only air facility in south central New York and northeastern Pennsylvania to host an air show this year.

The F-16 fighting falcon is a multi-role fighter which possesses the ability to reach speeds of up to Mach 2, withstand up to nine G's (nine times the force of gravity) and can fly distances of more than 500 miles and return to its starting point without having to refuel. Captain Edward Casey, who is a veteran pilot with over 1000 hours in jet aircraft, will be leading an eight-member flight crew during their riveting performance. The flight crew consists of narrators and a staff of highly trained maintenance personnel who are responsible for ensuring the aircraft are expertly maintained and repaired if necessary. Included in this highly skilled group is a 1993 graduate of Deposit Central High School, Staff Sergeant, John Schaub. As an avionics specialist, he is responsible for communications, navigation, fire control and flight control systems on the team's three F-16's.

Following the F-16 solo demonstration, a P-51 Mustang, one of the most famous and beautiful fighter aircraft in World War II will be flying in tandem in what is called a Heritage Flight. This unique visual representation of the Air Force's history originated in 1997 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the United States Air Force. What began as a one-time event has grown in popularity and now performs at air shows around the world.

Admission tickets to the air show can be purchased at the gate the day of the event. Prices are $7.00 for adults (17 years and older) $5.00 for children (8 to 16 years of age) and children under 8 are free. Discount advance tickets are now available at all area Giant Markets. There will be a $1 savings on each ticket with an advance ticket purchase. A $1 parking fee to benefit local participating service organizations will be collected the day of the event.
