New Lead Agency For HIV Care Network

As of July 1, the new lead agency for the HIV Care Network serving Broome, Chenango and Tioga Counties is the Broome County Health Department. The HIV Care Network announces the availability of the Regional HIV/AIDS Profile.

The HIV Care Network is a regional coalition of over 90 health and human service providers, business leaders, clergy, educators, and person living with HIV/AIDS. Its mission is to improve the quality of life for those living with HIV/AIDS by fostering a coordinated, comprehensive, and accessible continuum of health care and social support services.

The Congressionally established Ryan White Care Act funds the Network. These federal funds are administered through the New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute, Statewide AIDS Service Delivery Consortium (SASDC).

The Regional HIV/AIDS Profile, prepared by the Network Coordinator is available to the public, and provides a picture of HIV/AIDS associated data and services in Broome, Chenango and Tioga Counties through 1999. This document is a useful tool to plan for services for persons living with HIV or AIDS, for HIV prevention and educational purposes, and for obtaining information regarding the impact of AIDS on local communities.

Since Statewide reporting of AIDS began in the early 1980's, there have been 262 AIDS cases reported in the Broome, Chenango and Tioga County region. Broome residents constituted 79% of those were reported cases.

To obtain a copy of the profile report or for more information contact the Network Coordinator at 607.778.3066, Broome County Health Department, 225 Front Street, Binghamton, NY 13905.
