EMC Announces Riverbank Clean-Up in Broome County :: Saturday, October 12, 2002
BINGHAMTON, NY - The Broome County Environmental Management Council (EMC) is recruiting volunteers for its 17th Annual Fall Riverbank Clean-Up. The event will take place on Saturday, October 12, 2002 from 9 am until 12 noon at various locations along the Susquehanna, Chenango and Tioughnioga rivers and their tributaries in Broome County.
This event will once again be part of the International River and Coastal Clean-Up effort and is sponsored in New York State by the American Littoral Society. Last year's event was an unprecedented success, with over 400 volunteers collecting over 10 tons of illegally dumped trash at 26 sites along the banks of Broome County's waterways.
The EMC is now looking for individuals and teams of energetic volunteers to make this year's event even more successful. For a brochure and registration information, or to suggest a site that needs to be cleaned, please contact the EMC at 607.778.2116 or jlcorey before Friday, September 27.
The EMC is Broome County's citizen advisory group to the government on environmental matters and the focal point for public participation in local government decisions that effect the County's environment. For more information on the Riverbank Clean-up or the EMC visit the Broome County website at www.gobroomecounty.com.
