Kraham Unveils Greater Binghamton Airport Logo, Promotes Upcoming Airshow
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Broome County Executive Jeffrey P. Kraham joined local leaders and members of the Airport Advisory Board at the Greater Binghamton Airport this morning to unveil a striking new logo and tout plans for Aviation Day 2000 set for August 20th. The new logo -- set in blue and black -- depicts a jet streaming away from a globe tilted slightly on its axis. Beneath the logo appears the airport's new slogan "Our Gateway to the World."
"This new trademark not only symbolizes the exciting developments at the airport," said Mr. Kraham, "It highlights the fact that from Binghamton you can go anywhere in the world. And later this fall, we'll complete $13.7 million in renovations including a new departure lounge, restaurant, and baggage carousel, making our airport among the most convenient and accessible in the northeast."
The new logo will begin appearing immediately on airport letterhead, signage, and advertising. Members of the press and the public were invited this morning to view the new image by visiting the county's website, www.gobroomecounty.com and clicking on the county airport icon near the middle of the homepage.
Among the many enhancements available to airport customers this fall will be the ability to log in to the county's website from anywhere and check in real time the availability of flights and/or whether flights taking-off or coming in are on time.
Mr. Kraham added, "Again, as a big aviation enthusiast, I'm pleased to announce the arrival of the fourth annual Aviation Day featuring world-class aerobatic performances in the skies over Greater Binghamton Airport on August 20th."
Headlining the 2000 show will be 1998 World Aerobatic Bronze Medallist Matt Chapman. Chapman has thrilled audiences for over 20 years with breathtaking gyroscopic figures, precision maneuvers, and incredible tail-over-nose flips. Flying one of six CAP 231EX aircrafts in the world, and the only one in the United States, Chapman has won the prestigious IAC Championships in 1994 and the Fond du Lac Cup in 1995.
Joining the festivities again this year will be the always popular All-American Firebirds Aerobatic Team. They will be flying their Extra 300 aircrafts in an exciting array of maneuvers.
The US Airforce will be flying their F-15 fighter jet in a tactical demonstration. Other performances will be flown by a WWII TBM Avenger, an F-86 Sabre Jet from the Korean War era, and the Slit Image Aerobatic Team from Orange County, New York.
Airplane rides will also be available at the show site by Goodrich Aviation. For those who are more "grounded", there will be historic aircraft and military planes on static display. Also, free tours of the National Weather Service will be provided.
The airshow will take off at 10 in the morning and will be filling the skies until 4 in the afternoon. Tickets are available at all area Giant locations as well as at the gate. Admission is $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for children age 8-16, and children under 8 are free
