Greater Binghamton Airport's Passenger Boardings Highest Since 1998
BINGHAMTON, NY - Broome County Executive, Jeffrey P. Kraham is pleased to announce that during the month of July more passengers boarded planes at the Greater Binghamton Airport than at any other time within the past 5 years. In July 2003 a total of 12,637 passengers utilized the airport, a level not reached since October 1998 when 12,726 passengers flew.
Further, the passenger boardings equate to a 13.6 percent increase over July of 2002 and represent the twelfth consecutive month the airport has experienced positive growth over the previous year. In July of 2002, 11,120 passengers flew from BGM. Year-to-date through July, 68,009 passengers flew from the Greater Binghamton Airport, which is an increase of 7.7% in comparison to the same period in 2002. According to Air Transport Association, through June, nationwide passenger traffic is down 3.6%.
"The Greater Binghamton Airport has seen sustained success where many airports around the nation are experiencing continued passenger decreases," stated Kraham. "We are confident that because of our increased jet service, customer care, our loyalty programs and our comprehensive marketing campaign that we can continue to buck the trends," added Kraham.
Many factors have contributed to the Greater Binghamton Airport's recent recurrent success. First, local passengers have benefited from affordable airfares, which are in line with other airports across the region, for flights to many of the top business and leisure destinations. A second contributor to the growing passenger boarding numbers is the enhanced flight schedule (44 flights per day) offering convenient flight times, quiet and comfortable regional jets, and service on 4 of the nation's 6 largest airlines. A third element stems from the airport's comprehensive marketing program that has developed programs such as the Business Travelers Rewards Program, an innovative customer loyalty program designed to reward those travelers who choose the Greater Binghamton Airport for their air travel needs.
The airlines currently serving the Greater Binghamton area include Delta Connection, Northwest Airlink, United Express and US Airways Express.
