Shared Services Public Meeting Scheduled for Town of Union

BINGHAMTON, NY - Broome County Executive Barbara J. Fiala and Town of Union Supervisor John M. Bernardo announce the 2nd Shared Services Public Meeting will take place in the Town of Union Board Room on August 22nd at 7:00 p.m. The public meetings are part of an initiative to explore government services and to determine if any arrangements can be made to accomplish the delivery of services on a joint basis by local municipalities.

Members of the public are being asked to attend Monday's meeting and share their thoughts, questions and concerns about local governments sharing services.

"We have had a lot of interesting conversations with local municipal leaders since our Shared Services Summit in April," said Barbara Fiala, Broome County Executive. "We now are at the point where we want to hear what the public has to say about our efforts to share services and I am pleased that Town of Union Supervisor John Bernardo is hosting this public meeting to gauge the interest of taxpayers in Western Broome County."

"Like the County Executive, I have been very interested in exploring ways in which municipalities like the Town of Union, Johnson City, Endicott and others can come together to deliver services to its citizens in a more cost effective, efficient manner," said John Bernardo, Town of Union Supervisor. "We look forward to hearing from residents about their ideas on Sharing Services and we encourage their continued input throughout the entire process."

The first Shared Services Public Meeting was held in Binghamton in July. Another session, which has not been scheduled yet, will be held in the Town of Kirkwood, sometime in September.
