Kraham To Kick-Off The 19th Annual Chris Thater Memorial Races
BINGHAMTON, NY - Broome County Executive Jeffrey P. Kraham will kick-off the 19th Annual Chris Thater Memorial Races, Wednesday, August 21st, 2002 at 10.00 a.m. at Recreation Park in Binghamton.
The event, which will take place Saturday, August 24th - Sunday, August 25th, is sponsored by the Broome County STOP-DWI Program to honor the memory of Chris Thater, an avid cyclist who was killed by a drunk driver.
Each year, the Thater attracts more than 1,500 participants from local athletes to world-class competitors and is highlighted in several nationally syndicated sports magazines. This year the event is expected to bring in record crowds of more than 12,000.
The Chris Thater Memorial consists of a Pro In-Line Skating Race Tour, Pro-Am Cycling, 5K Run, Volleyball Tournament, 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament, and Swim Meet.
Spectators will encounter a large expo with numerous vendor displays, sports/health clinics, demonstrations and other youth sports and special events.
