KRAHAM ANNOUNCES NEW TOOL IN THE FIGHT AGAINST WEST NILE VIRUS
BINGHAMTON, NY - County Executive Jeffrey P. Kraham announced this afternoon the opening of the West Nile Virus Information Line at the Broome County Health Department. Residents can hear the most up-to-date information concerning the West Nile Virus, 24 hours a day, seven days a week by dialing 607.778.3911.
"Education is our Number 1 weapon in the fight against West Nile Virus" said Broome County Executive Jeffrey P. Kraham. "When people have the correct information about an issue, they can feel more comfortable" Kraham said.
Residents calling the Information Line will hear answers to the most frequently asked questions including mosquito facts; West Nile Virus and encephalitis; protecting your home, family, and pets; and the latest activities undertaken as part of the Broome County West Nile Virus Integrated Pest Surveillance and Control Plan.
"Broome County residents play an important role in the fight against West Nile Virus by reducing breeding habitats around their homes and property," said Charles H. Wolford, Broome County Public Health Director, "it is vital that they stay informed. Calling the Information Line will help residents keep up-to-date."
The Broome County Health Department reminds residents to continue reporting dead birds, especially crows, by calling the Environmental Health Division at 607.778.2887 during regular business hours or the Broome County Dispatch at 607.778.1911 after hours or on weekends.
