The 21st Annual Chris Thater Memorial Rides Into Broome County This Weekend
BINGHAMTON, NY - Broome County's STOP-DWI and the City of Binghamton will kick-off the 21st Annual Chris Thater Memorial Races with a news conference this Wednesday, August 25th at 10:00 a.m. at Recreation Park in Binghamton.
The two day event which will take place this Saturday, August 28th and Sunday August 29th, is sponsored by the Broome County STOP-DWI Program to honor the memory of Chris Thater, an avid cyclist who was killed by a drunk driver.
Each year, the Thater attracts more than 1000 participants from local athletes to world class competitors with crowds of over 15,000 spectators. The weekend sporting event strives to promote positive; health oriented activities while reinforcing the STOP-DWI message that is at the heart of the Chris Thater Memorial.
The Chris Thater Memorial consists of the Pro, Elite and Novice cycling events, a 5K Run, as well as a 3 on 3 basketball tournament. Spectators will encounter a large expo with numerous vendor displays, sports/health clinics, demonstrations and other youth sports and special events.
