Kraham And Libous Unveil New Electronic Marquee At Veterans Memorial ArenaMarquee Part of $808,000 Multi-Phase Renovation Project

BINGHAMTON, NY - Broome County Executive Jeffrey P. Kraham joined Senator Thomas W. Libous and Assemblyman Robert J. Warner this morning to unveil the new Electronic Color LED Marquee and Message Center at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

"Today we mark the beginning of a new era for this facility. This new marquee and message center will highlight the outstanding activities that take place at the Veterans Memorial Arena," said Mr. Kraham. "Because of the support and committed leadership of Senator Libous, we have been able to make this very important project a reality."

The marquee installation is part of an $808,000 renovation project, which includes $700,000 in State funding secured by Senator Libous.

"The Veterans Memorial Arena is one of our community´s brightest gems. After more than thirty years of use, it simply needed a ´polish.´ The installation of the new computerized marquee caps off a year of renovations that will help make the Arena the ´venue of choice´ for events here in the Southern Tier," said Senator Libous.

The new marquee was designed by Matzo Sign Company of Binghamton and was installed by Trans-Lux Corporation of Logan, Utah. The overall height of the marquee is 24´ 7", which includes a 4´ 10" electronic message center. A red LED Ticket Window Display has also been installed above the Box Office on the lower level of the Veterans Memorial Arena that will run ticketing and event information for concerts, sporting events and business shows.

The LED systems are ideal for extended operation because of their low power requirements and long-livability. Typically the systems require one-fifth of the power of similar sized incandescent systems and have more than 50,000 operating hours.

In addition to the marquee installation, other completed renovations include the installation of a professional basketball court, new outdoor siding and the installation of a portable wheelchair lift making the Veterans Memorial Arena ADA compliant.
