County Executive Announces September 11th Commemoration

BINGHAMTON, NY - Broome County Executive, Jeff Kraham has announced plans to commemorate the anniversary of September 11, 2001 at the center court of Government Plaza in downtown Binghamton.

On Saturday, September 11th at 8:46 a.m., the time at which the first World Trade Center Tower was struck, a moment of silence will be observed as the flags are lowered and a wreath is placed by representatives of local police, fire and EMS agencies. V.F.W. Post 478 from Binghamton, American Legion Post 1700 from West Endicott and the John W. Thurston Detachment from the Marine Corp League will also participate in the memorial ceremony.

"This is an opportunity for the community to remember those that lost their lives, the heroic rescuers and the strength of our nation," said Mr. Kraham. The County Executive also encouraged the ringing of bells and sounding of sirens at 8:46 a.m. as requested by Governor George Pataki.

The public is invited to join employees of New York State, Broome County and the City of Binghamton at this memorial ceremony.
