Dog Bite Appeal from the Broome County Health Department
BINGHAMTON, NY - The Broome County Health Department is appealing to the owner of a dog that bit a woman in the parking lot of the Windsor Big M, Tuesday night, September 10, to contact the Broome County Health Department at 607.778.2887, during regular business hours, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
The owner told the victim the dog had a rabies vaccination, however, the victim neglected to obtain the owner's name and address. The dog was described as a light colored cocker spaniel mixed breed. The health department needs to contact the owner to advise them to confine the dog for ten days. This is normal procedure in animal-bite cases so that the animal can be observed for 10 days. If the animal does not show rabies symptoms, the victim need not undergo post-exposure rabies treatment.
If the dog and owner in the Windsor incident are not found by Monday September 16, the victim must undergo post-exposure rabies treatment.
