Family Violence Prevention Council To Host 19th Conference On Preventing Family Abuse
BINGHAMTON, NY - The Broome County Family Violence Prevention Council will host their 19th conference on preventing family abuse entitled: "Advanced Training in Interventions in Domestic Violence: Children Who Witness Domestic Violence and Men Who Batter". The conference will be held on Monday, October 6th and Tuesday, October 7th at the Heritage Country Club and Conference Center, 4301 Watson Blvd., Johnson City, NY.
Monday, October 6th is an evening session from 7:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. featuring guest speaker Betsy McAlister Groves, LICSW, Founder and Director, Child Witness to Violence Project, at Boston Medical Center. Ms. Groves' presentation is entitled "Raising Children in a Violent World" and is designed for parents, daycare providers, foster parents and others involved in the daily care of children. The cost of this session is $7.00 per person.
Tuesday, October 7th is an all day event featuring speakers, Betsy McAlister Groves and Dr. Fernando Mederos, EdD, independent consultant, trainer and speaker. Ms. Groves' presentations will include "Children Who Witness Domestic Violence" and "Assessing and Treating Children Who Witness Domestic Violence". Dr. Mederos will speak on "Men Who Batter". Tuesday's program is designed to benefit the professionals that have contact with children and families including; human service, criminal justice, judicial, legal, healthcare and mental health professionals. The cost of this day's event is $35.00 per person.
