Broome County's Foster Parents Honored
BINGHAMTON, NY - On Friday, November 7th the Broome County Department of Social Services hosted a dinner at Endwell Greens Restaurant on Sally Piper Road in Endwell for foster parents who provide homes for the children of Broome County. The dinner is an annual event held to honor the commitment and caring provided by Broome's foster parents 365 days a year.
Broome County Executive Jeff Kraham, Commissioner of Social Services Art Johnson and Deputy Commissioner for Services Karen Perkins were among those recognizing the foster parents and offering their appreciation.
Foster parents in Broome County provide homes and care to approximately 200 children each month. They do not receive a salary, but are reimbursed for the cost of board and care at a rate based on the child's age and needs. They become involved in the child's family, their schooling, and any treatment services needed by these children. Foster parents include foster children as part of their family and help them to prepare to return home, move on to an adoptive family or leave to live independently.
